Stanwood woman wins Emmy
When Lindsay Johnson graduated from Stanwood High School in 2003, she never thought that a mere two years out of college she'd be holding an Emmy award with her name on it. Teens trespass, take vehicle
Police in the city of Stanwood responded to the following recently: June 21, three 14-yearold Stanwood teens were referred for criminal trespass in the 7500 block of 267th Street NW, and one of them for taking a motor vehicle without permission and no valid operator's license. Wild ride ends in arrest
Nearly a week after the Stanwood Camano Soap Box Derby, a race of another kind found its way to downtown Stanwood. A 54-year-old man driving a U-Haul truck and trailer was arrested Thursday morning, after leading Stanwood Police officers on a pursuit that ended at the Stanwood Post Office. Full Story

Motorcycle accident claims driver's life
A 28-year-old man was killed early Thursday morning on Happy Hollow Road, between 48th Ave. NW and Happy Valley Road, near Stanwood. Rebecca Hover, Snohomish County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, said detectives are investigating the accident and that the motorcycle appeared to be speeding at the time of the crash, which happened just before 4 a.m. Full Story
WSDOT kicks off the SR532 improvements
Washington State Deportment of Transportation (WSDOT) invites the public to help kick off the SR 532 corridor improvement project 10 a.m. Wed., July 1. Crews will go full throttle in July, when they begin building a new, wider General Mark W. Clark bridge, the only link between Camano Island and the mainland. Full Story
Crab season opens this Wed., July 1
Crab fishing season opens in marine areas 8-1 and 8-2 at 7 a.m., Wed., July 1. Fishing for Dungeness and red rock crabs will be allowed Wednesdays through Saturdays only, plus the entire Labor Day weekend, and closes the evening of Sept. 7. All fishing gear must be removed from the water one hour after sunset on the last day of the period. Full Story
Burn ban in effect
Island County Sheriff Mark Brown, acting fire marshal, says a burn ban will go into effect throughout the county as of 8 a.m., Wed., July 1 until further notice. This means no outdoor burning of natural debris is allowed — even with a permit. Full Story

Island County Sheriff's deputies on Camano Island responded to the following recently: • A 27-year-old man reported the theft of electronics and a check for $413 from his home on W. Funds for tourism projects
Island County Commissioners will accept applications for the 2 percent hotel-motel tourism lodging tax July 15-Aug. 31. The program supports projects that attract visitors and encourage tourism expansion in Island County. The county receives a share of taxes collected on hotel and motel room rentals. Full Story
