During the upcoming Referral Program rewards, BALCOS INSURANCE will be donating $350 to the Stanwood Camano Food Bank. "In these hard times, it is important more than ever to ensure that the basic needs of our friends and neighbors are taken care of," said a representative.

Steve and Cindy Williams will celebrate their 20th anniversary June 24. They are the proud parents of three children and two grandchildren.

The following Washington State University students from Western Washington have earned recognition on the fall 2008 President's Honor Roll, according to the registrar's office. Camano Island: MALOUA LOUISE BECK, ANDREW JON BRODIN, STACY PATRICIA LEORNA, CRAIG VERNER OLSON, JESSICA LEIGH VAUGHAN and DANE MICHAEL YOUNGREN. Stanwood: HEATHER LUFF CASE, ELISE KATHLEEN DALY, COURTNEE ROSE DEMERS, JENNIFER LYNN FRABLE, JESSICA JEAN FRABLE, LARS L. JANGAARD, MICHELLE KAY SCOTT and CHELSEA JEANNE WENDT.

Stanwood Community and Senior Center (SCSC) recently received a $4,500 grant from the Nysether Family Foundation, and the Mark and Vickie Fund, to purchase a used DART bus for its senior programs. In addition, the center received a $1,000 gift from the Stanwood Lions Club to purchase seat belts for the bus. "We're so excited to move forward with the purchase of a dependable bus. We're extremely thankful for their generosity," said director Michelle Johnson, SCSC.

Among the 942 undergraduate students named to the Gonzaga University President's List for spring semester 2009 are AMANDA K. BAUMGARTNER, a junior, and KAYLI A. CROSBY, a senior, both of Stanwood. One of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S., Gonzaga has grown and matured into one of the west's premier universities, with around 7,300 students.

STACY HOLTMANN of Camano Island is listed on the 2009 spring semester Dean's List at the University of Portland. She is a senior and majoring in global business.

Three Camano Island students were named to the Dean's List at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA, for winter quarter, 2008. KASEY CHRISTEN CLEEK and DEREK JAMES LAND, both seeking a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree from the School of Communication and Arts; MARGO BLYTHE NELSON, seeking a BFA from the School of Building Arts.

Students from the Stanwood area who graduated from the University of Washington this month are SHANE JOE BLACKFORD, BA (political science), KYLE RICHARD DAVIS, BA (English: creative writing), BRETT WILLIAM GEIGER, BA in business administration (accounting), JULIANNE RUSSELL GREEN, BS (chemistry: ACS certified), RIKKI NICOLE JOHNSON, BA in (business administration, accounting) and a second BA (Spanish), GRACE NICOLE KIDD, BA (architectural studies) and NICK DANIEL PALANIUK, BS (biochemistry).
