Celebrate Independence Day at Freedom Park

Stanwood-Camano residents are invited to celebrate the Fourth of July, 3 p.m., at Freedom Park at Terry's Corner on Camano Island.

Speakers include Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, Island County Commissioner John Dean; the commanding officer of VAQ 129 from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Command Master Chief Rick Colombo, Ret., from Everett Naval Station, and Pearl Harbor survivor Cecil Calavan.

There will also be music provided by Camano Island Men's Choir. A prayer service will take place before and after the proceedings, led by Father Bob Dietel of St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, and Father Laurence Porcinic, O.C.D., of St. Cecilia Catholic Church.

A bell ceremony will be conducted by Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, using the ship's bell from the Liberty Ship SS Cape Meares that carried troops to the Pacific in 1944.

Volunteers are needed to help with arrangements; phone Phil Lewis (629-0132).
