Islanders reminded of power outage Sunday

Island County Public Works reminds area residents of the power outage to take place from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m., Sun., June 28, as Snohomish County PUD relocates transmission lines as part of Washington State Department of Transportation's project to expand the Mark Clark Bridge on Camano Island.

"This is a perfect time to remind drivers of the laws addressing traffic signals that are operating without power," said Island County Traffic Engineer Connie Bowers.

Bowers said many signals have battery backup systems; however, drivers still could encounter a traffic signal that is completely blank during a power outage.

In such cases, she reminds divers to treat the intersection as a four-way stop, which requires all vehicles to stop and yield at the intersection.
