Composting is garden club topic Thurs., June 18 at the Camano Center (next to CASA), the Camano Garden Club will host a 10 a.m. program on composting. Guest speaker is Janet Hall from WSU Island County Extension. She will demonstrate the construction of a compost bin from used pallets and a food composter from a metal trash can. The pallet composter will be auctioned off after the demonstration, with proceeds going to CASA. Attendees need to bring a sack lunch (beverage provided), or plan a no-host lunch at an island restaurant. After lunch, there will be a visit to a local garden. Annual barbecue salmon dinner set The annual barbecue salmon dinner will be held at the Camano Country Club Sat., June 27, B.Y.O.B., 5:30 p.m. Dinner will follow. There is a cost for members/guests only. The event is co-hosted by Jim and Cari Adamson.
Madrona Sirens to host open house The Madrona Sirens invite the public to an open house Thurs., June 25, 6:30 p.m. Attendees can view plans for the new Vista Fire Station, and have hot dogs with their families. Chief Mike Ganz will speak at 7:30 p.m., updating the bond issue, the new station and fire/EMS levies.

Learn how to harvest, cook shellfish Harvesting and cooking shellfish is a June 24, 7 p.m. community presentation by Bill Griffith, Tom Perry, Pete Domato and Duane Hoekstra, Camano Island, WSU Island County Beach Watchers. The event will be at the Camano Multipurpose Canter, 141 N. East Camano Drive (blue building), and is part of the Fourth Wednesday informational series, which is sponsored by WSU Island County Beach Watchers. Islanders potluck open to visitors The Islanders potluck will be Mon., June 22, 6 p.m., at the Lost Lake Clubhouse, 1469 Lake Dr. Attendees are asked to bring a friend, as the group is looking for new folks to join the potluck, a long-standing Camano tradition. 'Sound of Music' auditions next week Camano Island's Lyric Light Opera Company is holding auditions June 27- 29 at United Methodist Church in Stanwood for upcoming performances of "The Sound of Music." Brenda Mueller, founder and executive director, encourages both professional and amateur artists to participate. Lyric Light Opera of the Northwest creates theatre suitable for the whole family, using local actors, singers and dancers of all ages.
Father's Day pancake breakfast The Camano Country Club will celebrate Father's Day Sun., June 21 with a pancake breakfast cooked fresh by some local dads. The public is welcome. Breakfast is served 9 a.m. to noon, and includes coffee and orange juice with choices of all-you-can-eat, fresh-grilled pancakes, eggs to order, ham or sausage; or corned-beef hash, biscuit and eggs — all with live music.

I sland tour of wildlife gardens Visit wildlife gardens at the second annual Camano Island Backyard Wildlife Habitat Garden Tour Sat., June 27, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The event is free to the public. Pick up maps at Camano Multipurpose Center (AKA — The Blue Building), 141 East Camano Dr., the day of the event. Besides the tour, the wildlife habitat will demonstrate how people can live in harmony with nature, show how any property can be a Backyard Wildlife Habitat, and promote awareness of the National Wildlife Federation's Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program — just by providing food, water, shelter and places to raise young. Information on native plants, wildlife, composting, as well as challenges faced on particular properties, will be available. C.A.R.E. continues to discuss water Camano Action for A Rural Environment will have its regular 7 p.m. meeting Thurs., June 18 at the Terry's Corner Windermere office at the corner of Sunrise and SR 532/East Camano Drive. C.A.R.E. will continue the discussion of water issues on the island, discuss the TR Camano gas station/convenience store application, and discuss future activities. Republican Women meet June 23
The Camano Island Women's Republican Club (CIWRC) will meet at 12 noon, Tues., June 23, at the Lost Lake Community Center, 1469 West Lake Dr. on Camano Island. CIWRC welcomes new members and visitors from the island, Stanwood and the surrounding area. The club will participate in the Stanwood 4th of July parade, will host the annual home tour July 11, and will again have its food booth at the Stanwood/Camano Community Fair.
