Composting is garden club topic Thurs., June 18 at the Camano Center (next to CASA), the Camano Garden Club will host a 10 a.m. program on composting. Guest speaker is Janet Hall from WSU Island County Extension. She will demonstrate the construction of a compost bin from used pallets and a food composter from a metal trash can. Full Story

The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC). The SWAC reviews solid waste programs, processes, documents, etc., advises on solid waste policy. Full Story
Learn about upgrades to CIFR fire stations
Camano Island Fire and Rescue will hold a public meeting at Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Rd., Camano Island, on June 24, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., for the purpose of presenting information on the planned seismic upgrade of the Terry's Corner Fire Station. Full Story
Teen sex offender returns to island
A registered sex offender (RSO) notification meeting that took place on Camano Island last Tuesday may seem like déjà vu for some local residents. Dozens of Lost Lake Community residents attended a similar meeting in September 2007, when then 17-year-old Adam Bye was released from juvenile detention. Full Story
