On the Island
Composting is garden club topic Thurs., June 18 at the Camano Center (next to CASA), the Camano Garden Club will host a 10 a.m. program on composting. Guest speaker is Janet Hall from WSU Island County Extension. She will demonstrate the construction of a compost bin from used pallets and a food composter from a metal trash can. Full Story

More cuts to public health
In an act that is becoming far too familiar, the Snohomish Health District again made cuts to programs, with more reductions slated for later in the year. The board of health cut 17 positions. Ten of those employees will come from the Environmental Health division's Waste and Wastewater program, which deals with wells and septic systems. Their jobs will end July 15. Full Story

Roberta Joyce Wagner was born to Jesse S. and Mayme M. (Boles) Bell May 30, 1929, in Westville, Oklahoma. She entered into rest June 7, 2009 in Mount Vernon, with her loving family at her side, at the age of 80 years. Growing up were lean years, during the Depression in Oklahoma. Roberta was proud of her Native American (Cherokee) heritage. Full Story
PAUL EICHHORN
Paul Eichhorn, age 63, a resident of Camano Island, went to be with the Lord on Fri., June 5, 2009. He was born in 1946 in Milwaukee, WI, and served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a San Diego firefighter, as well as retiring from the King County Fire Marshall's Office. Full Story
