Steelheads win trophy

Steelhead swim team members are Madi Elsner, Kevin English, Claire Farnsworth, Cole Farnsworth, Elle Farnsworth, Christina Garrett, Matt Hardenbrook, Maia Jenkins, Devon Martinka, James McCune, Justin Murrell, Karlie Rimat, Matt Roe, Abby Spencer, Alisa Stang, Tyler Swanson, Katelyn Ware, Whitney Weinert and Lizzy Wirth. The Steelhead swim team won their first team trophy May 15-17 at the 33rd Annual Spring Thunderbird swim meet in Anacortes. They won fifth place out of eight teams at the swim meet.

Because of the small size of the team, compared to many other teams, winning a team trophy was difficult, according to a spokesman.

"The swimmers and coaches are very excited because usually only the top three or even only the first place team gets a trophy," he said.

In addition to the team trophy, individual swimmers also won awards, with more than half the swimmers getting sixth place or higher in one or more events. Justin Murrell placed second overall for 13- to 14-yearold boys.
