JOSEPHINE care facility recently received a $5,000 grant from the Tulalip Tribes Charitable Fund for a new art project, "Telling your story through art." "We are so excited to now offer a personal art program for residents where they can express their life story through a hands-on art project," said Becky Bunke, grant writer for Josephine.

"Art lives in a community, not alone on an island," said Chaim Bezalel, a local artist who will be hired through the grant to conduct the art classes. "Everybody has a story to tell, but this is especially true with the elderly." Persons in Josephine, along with family members in the community, will be able to have instruction on creating a one-of-a-kind art piece about their own life. The benefits will not only be the finished art work, but the quality time involved interacting with family, the instructor and staff members. The project will also challenge the resident in problem-solving, engage them in brain stimulation, purposeful work and enjoyable play. The lasting art will be a wonderful memory for the family and the community.
