Chamber's fifth annual golf classic The public is invited to save the date of July 31 for the Stanwood Chamber of Commerce fifth annual golf classic at Camaloch Golf Course. Registration open now for VBS St. Cecilia Catholic Church is holding a vacation Bible school week packed full of music, crafts, outdoor sports, Bible stories and role playing skits with June 22-26. Children between the ages of 4 years through the 5th grade, are welcome to sessions 9 a.m. through 12 noon. A small fee is charged per child, with discounts for more children; scholarships are available. Registration fees are waived for those who assist. Registrations are being accepted now. Young people can sew for the S-C Fair A sewing class at the Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center for young people ages 11-19 will cover all levels of sewing. United Way is seeking nominations for an adult, youth and/or company who are actively volunteering, creating a culture of community involvement and inspiring others to serve for its Spirit of Snohomish County Awards. Also, they are taking applications for the Reeves/Sievers' Founders Award for a lifetime of service. Lions Club expands recycle program The Stanwood Lion's Club has always recycled eye glasses and now will do the same for cell phones and hearing aids. "You donate them, we collect and recycle them for those who need them, worldwide," they said. Collection boxes are at all area pharmacies, both senior centers, and at the IGA at the Plaza on Camano. Also, the Lions want the public to know that old cell phones are still good for 911 calls.
Annual art show is this weekend Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild 7th annual art show is this weekend, June 6 and 7, at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Arts Center, 27130 - 102nd Ave. N. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; admission is free. Artists have entered their favorite acrylics, oils, watercolors, photography, woodworking, glass, pottery, jewelry and other creations, as they compete for seven cash prizes and 17 award ribbons.
Flower garden slide show June 13 The "Elegant White Garden" slide show will be hosted by Christianson's Nursery Sat., June 13, 11 a.m. Reservations are required and there is a small fee. Barbara Flynn will share plants suited to creating a "moon garden." Following this show, from noon to 3 p.m., the spotlight will be on David Austin roses.
Greenwood gardeners learn of ferns

Springtime music by local chorale The Stanwood-Camano Chorale will present a spring program of folk songs Sun., June 7, 3 p.m. at Stanwood United Methodist Church. Choir director is Steve Jensen and accompanist is Mary Lu Conley. Donations will be accepted for the music fund.
'Stock the Pantry' food drive There will be a "Stock the Pantry" food drive from now until June 14, helping to feed out-of-school children and their families during summer months. Bartell Drugs launched the food drive with Northwest Harvest. Nonperishable food donations will be accepted at the Stanwood. Some "kid-friendly" food item suggestions include tuna, instant oatmeal, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, cheese crackers, applesauce and canned fruit in individual serving sizes. A comprehensive education program is for newly diagnosed Type II or adult-onset patients with diabetes or those whose diabetes is poorly managed. The program also provides education for pregnant women with gestational diabetes in collaboration with OB-GYNs and family physicians. In addition, the program provides education and management of children with diabetes in collaboration with pediatricians and family physicians. Signups wanted for Soap Box Derby The second annual Stanwood-Camano Soap Box Derby will be held June 20, and the call has gone out to drivers, old and new, to dust off their building skills and sign up for the race. The headquarters is set up in the old gas station behind Bob's Market in Stanwood along SR 532. The first clinic was held April 23, and more clinics are planned. Rosemaling workshop set at lodge Daughters of Norway Ingeborg Lodge #43 is presenting a lecture and workshop with Roberta Morrow Sat., June 6 in the sons of Norway Hall with a 10 a.m. business meeting followed by a 11:30 program consisting of a workshop for those interested in trying their hand in the art of rosemaling. All those interested in learning should plan on attending.
