Rallying on a refurbished road

Bicycles, motorcycles, vintage cars and other vehicles took to Camano Hill Road Saturday morning in a rally to recognize the reconstruction of 3.5 miles of the road. The project was the largest Island County has done in terms of dollars and in length, said Randy Brackett, assistant county engineer. It was finished $500,000 under budget and two weeks earlier than expected. Funds for the project included about $1 million from the state County Road Administration Board, $4.7 million of Island County road funds and about $2 million from Snohomish County Public Utility District. The road was widened in places and repaved, turn lanes were added and safety was improved, including the shoulders.
