PHOTO BY JOHN GALBREATH STANWOOD/CAMANO NEWS Sophomore long-distance specialist Minna Fields (second from right) ran a time of 11:01.38 to take sixth overall in the Class 4A 3200-meter run in her first state appearance at Star Track XXVII Thursday evening. Three different Lady Spartans brought home medals from Star Track XXVII after placing among the top eight 4A competitors in the WIAA state track and field championships last week.

Kaci Jones, Minna Fields and Trista Peterson all came home with hardware that represented their superlative efforts during competition with Washington state's finest.

Jones hurled the javelin well during all six of her throws, topping out at a distance of 127 feet, 3 inches for fifth place.

Fields took sixth place with a clocking of 11:01.38 in the 3200-meter run.

Senior field-event specialist Peterson fell nearly two feet short of her district-winning toss of 40-4 but still finished seventh among shot putters at the state meet with a throw of 38-02.5 feet.

"The throwing duo of Kaci and Trista brought home medals to represent the female field event Spartans, and Minna Fields improved her school record in the 3200 and placed sixth in one of the strongest races of the meet," said coach Jordan Sneva. "The 4x400 teams fought hard but fell short of running in the finals, but they helped cheer on the other Spartans in the 80 degree heat!"

Other local girls who competed at state but failed to make the finals were Natalie Bergstrom, Corinne Teichgrab, Hailey Storbeck, Christina Lancaster, Maddi Davis
