Area 8.1 and 8.2 fishing report

Area 8.1 and 8.2: Lingcod are being caught around the 8.1-8.2 area. Though results are mixed, it is still worth getting out there. The Head and around Hat Island are producing fish. Live bait works great if you can get it, or 4- to 6- ounce leadhead with a twintail will also work well. Also try Possession Bank and Admirality, in Area 9. Remember, one rockfish is also allowed.

Halibut fishing is still going strong. Many customers have reported catching fish from 20 to 50 pounds. Black Label, and Blue Label herring, Glow or White Squids and octopus will land you fish at Partridge and Hein Banks, and in Admiralty Bay.

Still no word on an extra day for spotted shrimp. Check with WDFW for emergency rule changes.

Other fishing opportunities:

We have received several reports of good-sized trout coming from Lake McMurray. Spinners, Wooly Buggers, or using Powerbait all seem to be equally effective.

The Skagit River will open from SR 530 bridge to the Cascade River June 1 to July 15 for hatchery Chinook. Expect a lot of fishing pressure on the river and banks. Large Kwikfish wrapped with sardine/herring, float/egg combos and large spoons will be the most popular methods to hook your four-fish limit (only two may be adults).

Local lakes continue to be stocked by WDFW including Pass, Vogler, Ketchum and Goodwin, so fishing should remain great for everyone.

For those wanting to travel, we received notice of the May 22-July 31 opening of Icicle River (Chelan County) for spring Chinook. Daily limit is two, 12" minimum. Look for closure signs 800 feet above the mouth and 500 feet below the dam.
