Area 8.1, 8.2 fishing report
Area 8.1 and 8.2: Bottomfish of good size are still finding their way into the boat, but the lingcod catch has slowed. Though a few fish are being reported from the Deception Pass area, you may try Camano Head with a blue or green label herring. The success rate seems to be better and for many if it is a bit easier to get to. Lingcod closes June 15.
The Tulalip Bubble opens June 5 (Friday - noon, Monday) until Sept. 7. There will be one closure on June 20. If you locate the fish, mooching is a good way to get your limit.
Other fishing opportunities:
Bass fishing has been improving. Several large bass have been reported caught in local lakes. Big Lake and Sunday have produced.
The Skagit River is open until July 15 for hatchery Chinook. There seems to be mixed feelings over what to expect for fish returns, but one can bet there will be plenty of pressure. Find your favorite hole early! The remainder of the river will open later.
Local lakes are still good for trout with the continued plantings. The fish have moved a little deeper now, and many people have switched to buggers in green, brown or black. White marshmallows and worms are also good alternatives.
Halibut fishing has been hit and miss this past week. We have reports to 80 pounds but with fewer limits caught. Tides have not been in the favor of the fishermen, however. White 8" squid, large herring or squid are the favorite bait. Halibut closes June 5.
