Father and daughter dance Saturday The second annual father/daughter dance, hosted by the Camano Country Club Clubhouse, will be Sat., June 6, 6:30 to 9 p.m.

C ounty commissioners host island forum The Board of Island County Commissioners will host a 6 p.m. forum Mon., June 15, at Grigwire Hall, Old Building (Community Building), Trinity Lutheran Church, 18341 SR 525 in Freeland. Islanders from throughout the county are welcome to attend.

J oin discussion on Guantanamo Bay Wed., June 10, 7 p.m., at the Camano Multipurpose Building, 141 East Camano Drive, Pat Gallagher, a board member of the Washington State chapter of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and an artist, will lead a participatory presentation exploring the complexities of the history, current dilemmas and future of the Guantanamo detainees. Sponsored by the Camano Island Democrats; all welcome.

Pick up litter on roads near state parks Friends of Camano Island Parks will have a work party Sat., June 6, to pick up litter on Camano roads near the state parks. Meet at the Elger Bay Store at 9:30 a.m. for 1.5 hours of litter pick up. Bring gloves and sturdy shoes. Iverson Estuary field day Saturday "Wonders of Iverson" Estuary Field Day, will be held 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Sat., June 6. It will showcase the diverse marine and freshwater habitats of Iverson Spit Preserve, a 120-acre estuary owned by Island County at the southwest corner of Livingston Bay. Walks will lead participants through an array of habitats, led by WSU Beach Watchers, along with a biologist with the Stillaguamish tribe. Explore the former salt marsh and learn about the upper tideline area. Walks begin at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. This workshop is sponsored by the WSU Beach Watchers in Island County, Island County Shore Stewards, and the Stillaguamish Tribe. F OCIP workers at state park, Four Springs Friends of Camano Island Parks volunteers will be hosting a work party at Camano Island State Park and Four Springs Lake Preserve next week. Meet at 9:30 a.m. Tues., June 9, at the Camano Island State Park ranger station. Bring lunch; beverage and dessert provided. Newcomers are welcome to join FOCIP in work party efforts to improve Camano Island parks. Healthy choice vendor at Saturday market

La Hacienda of Stanwood is the "healthy choice" food vendor for LiveWell Saturday Market and swap meet at the Camano RE/MAX office north of Camano Plaza, continuing all summer. There will be live music June 13, featuring Marcia Kester with soft rock, country, oldies and ballads. Annual carnival and silent auction

Food, jump houses, games, silent auction and so on, will be part of Utsalady Elementary's annual carnival Fri., June 5, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. All elementary school age children and families are invited. Auction items up for progressive bid have been donated by local artists, restaurants, businesses and local residents. The school is located at 608 Arrowhead Rd.

Mabana Flames last meeting 'til fall The Mabana Flames will meet for the last time of the 2008-2009 year Thurs., June 4, 10:30 a.m. at the Mabana Fire Station on S. Camano Dr. Guest speaker Mary Raymond is from the library, plus there'll be a plant exchange among members and a potluck salad luncheon. Hostesses will be Martha Brechlin, Karen Gates, Betty Perry, and Donna Wilson. All guests welcome.

Garage sale donations welcome Sat, June 13, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sun., June 14, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a garage sale at the CountryClub Clubhouse, 1243 Beach Dr., Camano Island. Drop off donations for the garage sale Sun., June 7, 1 to 4 p.m. and Mon., June 8 through Fri., June 12, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Annual card party benefits center The Camano Senior and Community Center's annual card party is Thurs., June 11, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the center and the Second Chance Thrift Shop. Fee includes lunch and beverage, all proceeds go to purchase new card tables for the center. Sponsored by Angel of the Winds.

Land Trust work party at creek The Whidbey Camano Land Trust is restoring a forest buffer on its property along Kristoferson Creek, with a work party set for Sat., June 13, 9 a.m. to noon. Trees and shrubs were planted on the property several years ago and volunteers will trim back competing vegetation. If you are interesting in helping out, sign up in advance by calling Jessica Larson, 360-222-3310, or emailing her at jessica@wclt.org. The Land Trust will provide tools and refreshments.
