Car show still cruising

By RICK WOOD Staff Reporter

Engines are still revving for the Twin City Idlers (TCI) annual show and shine, scheduled for Sun., June 28.

Sandy Kitchens, TCI spokeswoman, said she wants to assure folks that the car show is still on.

"There have been nasty rumors that the show was cancelled," said Kitchens.

The rumors started after Idlers requested financial support from the city when seeking permission to hold the event at a city council meeting last month, she said.

"Although the city didn't approve what we asked for, the show was not in danger of being cancelled," said Kitchens.

At the center of their request was that the city supply portable restrooms, barricades and assistance with banner placement and removal.

The city declined to pay for the portable restroom rentals, which would cost $1,600, but will provide public safety support for the event.

The seventh annual event will kick off with a nighttime cruise of downtown Stanwood, Sat., June 27, 8-10 p.m., and the show and shine will start at 9 a.m. the next morning.

Prior to the cruise, Idlers will meet up at the former Thrifty Foods parking lot.

Last year's event saw more than 700 vehicles participate in the show, and thousands of spectators came from as far as Canada to see the hotrods and classic cars, she said.

"We're hoping for a great turnout again this year," said Kitchens.
