Lane closures, power outages planned for bridge construction

Snohomish County PUD announced lane closures and power outages in conjunction with the construction project on the new Mark Clark Bridge, scheduled to begin in July.

Crews will close a lane on SR 532 near the Mark Clark Bridge for two nights to begin relocating high-tension power lines.

One lane will be closed from 8:30 p.m., Thurs., June 4, to 6 a.m., Fri., June 5. Crews hope to finish the relocation in one night but may have to continue the following night, from 8:30 p.m., Fri., June 5, to 6 a.m., Sat., June 6.

Flaggers will direct traffic while crews have the lane closed. Drivers should expect minor delays, said a spokesman.

PUD has also scheduled two power outages in June in order to relocate the transmission line serving Camano Island customers:

• Sun., June 14, from midnight to 8 a.m.

• Sun., June 28, from midnight to 8 a.m.

"Camano Island residents should take necessary steps to prepare for up to eight hours without power," said a PUD spokesman. "The PUD will make every attempt to keep the outage duration to a minimum."

Customers who rely on lifesupport equipment are advised to have a backup plan for the outages.

"It's critical that customers using special medical equipment at home, such as respirators, consider purchasing a backup generator and/or have other contingency plans in place," the spokesman said. Customers are advised to set up plans with friends or relatives to get to a site with electricity and/or identify emergency centers at local social service agencies and churches.
