Field trip was very educational

Dear Editor:

On May 11-12, the voices of delighted children rang though the forest and on the beach at Camano Island State Park.

The occasion was 2009 Education Days, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks (FOCIP), a field trip to Camano Island State Park for 200 second grade students from Stanwood, Utsalady, and Elger Bay elementary schools.

In its 11th year, the program features a guided walk through interpretive trails in the forest, an interactive presentation about estuaries in the amphitheatre, a skit about responsible camping, and six hands-on educational activities about the rocky shore at the beach.

The event's success is due to efforts of dedicated volunteers from FOCIP, Beach Watchers, and our hosts, Camano Island State Park staff.

Thank you to FOCIP cochairmen Carol Triplett and Tom Eisenberg and to member volunteers: Bob Brown, John Isakson, Byrde Stordahl, Pete Domoto, Judy Swearingen, Terry Skorheim, Joe Holton, Sherry Erickson, Karen Mc- Fall, Kurt Persson, Lori Wentland, Frank Alishio, Pam Fredericksen, Cathy Holton, Bob Wentland, Shawn Brown, John Andrews, Larry Bach, Basil Badley, Kathleen Stariha, Carol Gillespie, Wander Pedersen, Jerry Nielson, Bev Reaume, Jim Turk, Mary Kay Branch, Pam Pritzl, Carl Johansen, Lowell Stordahl, Skip Ingraham, Chris Fredericksen, Wally Cleve, Michael Scott, Jack McFall, Arlan Harang, Dwayne Broderson, Marge Froiland, Lynne Galloway, Shirley Persson, Gail Nilsson and Teri McLachlan.
