Thieves used a stolen welding set from another Stanwood business to try and enter the vault of Washington Federal Savings over Memorial Day weekend. Though the thief or thieves managed to do significant damage to the vault, the attempt was unsuccessful, said Stanwood Police Chief Ty Trenary. Full Story

Police in the city of Stanwood responded to the following recently: May 25, unknown suspect(s) pried off door latches to a business in the 9000 block of 271st Street NW. May 26, a business in the 9500 block of 271st Street NW reported an attempt was made to gain access to the building, but no entry was made. Full Story
Lane closures, power outages planned for bridge construction
Snohomish County PUD announced lane closures and power outages in conjunction with the construction project on the new Mark Clark Bridge, scheduled to begin in July. Crews will close a lane on SR 532 near the Mark Clark Bridge for two nights to begin relocating high-tension power lines. Full Story
Nonprofit offers help for housing repairs
The new shingles and porches fit seamlessly with Kim Smith's Lake Goodwin area home. Her father built the original wood A-frame, and later, Kim and her husband built the addition. Kim had recently injured the rotator cuff in her right shoulder, and was unable to fix the leaking shake roof herself. Full Story
Transportation priorities identified in plan
Every year, when the city plans to apply for new state and federal grants to fix, build or maintain Stanwood roads, it has to adopt a forward looking plan listing the most critical projects. School district is fined
The Stanwood-Camano School District was cited by the state Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) for unsafe working conditions. The district was fined $1,050 due to the awkward positions employees lifted boxes in the Port Susan Middle School freezer and Stanwood High School storage area. Full Story
Fire stations' open houses
North County Regional Fire Authority will be hosting its annual fire station open houses in three different locations during the month of June. There will be free food, bouncy house for kids, educational safety information, fire engine and aid car tours, etc. Full Story
County has 'ending homelessness' funds
Snohomish County has awarded 19 projects about $1.5 million in the third year of available Ending Homelessness funds. A total of 27 projects and agencies applied for $2.2 million in funding. Only 19 projects and agencies were awarded grants. Full Story

A Hughes 500 helicopter, flown by HiLine Helicopters, was hired by Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to remove nearly 100 tons of creosote logs from Livingston Bay beaches Thursday morning. Full Story
