Island bistro to host summer-long volleyball games
By RICK WOOD Staff Reporter
Bonnie Brindle, owner of Brindles Bistro, located at Terry's Corner on Camano Island, would really like to see a "spike" in business.
Starting Sun., May 24, and every Sunday thereafter, from 1 - 4 p.m., team volleyball games and barbecue will be held at Camano Commons at Terry's Corner.
"This first Sunday will be a great jam of volleyball players," said Brindle. "In fact, every Sunday will be a great jam."
Brindles already offers many things for inside fun — wonderful food, an Irish pub and music throughout the week, said Brindle.
"But summer is coming," she said. "It's time get outside and get together."
Brindle said she kept thinking the Camano Commons grass circle in front of an outside deck would be perfect for an outdoor activity.
"It came to me — let's use it," she said. "Volleyball came to mind."
Brindle categorizes her establishment as a "social hub," and, therefore, a natural fit for hosting community events.
"I am constantly thinking of ways to bring friends together and make it a place where people feel comfortable," said Brindle. "I want my quests to feel like it is their place."
Families and friends can come to support the players, she said. There is an area for seating around the grass circle.
Volleyball games will start at 1 p.m. and last until there is a winning team or until exhaustion sets in, said Brindle. Sign-up sheets are available at Brindles to join in the rotation of players.
Teams typically consist of six players of all ages and abilities. Several businesses and organizations already have teams lined up, she said.
"As competition grows, we would like to get other businesses or groups to join in and set up a tournament," said Brindle.
Brindles will sponsor the tournament, and the winning team will receive $150 to donate to a charity or important cause in their behalf, she said.
"The most important plan is to come out, play volleyball, enjoy the barbecue with your favorite beverage and get to know your neighbors," Brindle said.
