Thousands still struggling with DTV transition
With the digital television transition next month, local organizations are ramping up efforts to help area families get DTV-ready.
While many affected households have taken action, there are still many hard-toreach communities who are not yet prepared for the June 12 switch.
Three area organizations are operating DTV assistance centers to help residents prepare for the fast-approaching switch to digital:
• Reclaim the Media (206- 508-1277) is providing drop-in assistance services at several community centers. Visit www. seattledtv.com.
• Youngstown Cultural Arts Center and Youth Media Institute (206-935-2999) is providing assistance in Spanish, Arabic, and Somali as well as training workshops.
• Leadership Academy with Para Los Niños (206-988-3760) is providing assistance to Latino and Spanish-speaking communities, and also operates a Spanishlanguage DTV hotline.
The government coupon program is accepting applications from consumers whose coupons expired without being redeemed. People can reapply online at www.dtv2009.gov/ApplyCoupon. aspx or by calling 1-888- DTV-2009. Hearing-impaired callers may use 1-877-530-2634 (TTY).
Area residents can call any of the above listed assistance centers for local assistance applying or reapplying for a coupon and other technical support.
