In the May 19 edition, "Home dream means sweat equity," the total number of hours owner/ builders work was mistakenly identified as 300. In actuality, each family in Housing Hope's self-help housing program works 1,000 to 1,500 hours building the homes within their group. Full Story
News on Tape goes high tech
Last week the Stanwood Lions Club released their first prod uction version on compact disc (CD) of the Stanwood/Camano NEWS for the blind. For the past several years, multiple volunteers have spent hours reading the newspaper each week onto audiotape, which were then duplicated and mailed to the recipients. Police buckle down on night drivers
Island County sheriff deputies and troopers from the Washington State Patrol will conduct special nighttime patrols this week to search for people not using their seat belts. Roughly 70 law enforcement agencies across the state will be participating in the nighttime patrols. Full Story
Laptop computer taken from church, attempted luring of disabled woman
Police in the city of Stanwood responded to the following recently: May 19, a laptop computer was stolen from a church in the 8000 block of 272nd Street NW. May 21, a man in a green four-door car in the 7400 block of 272nd Street NW attempted to lure a developmentally disabled woman into his vehicle. Police were unable to locate him. Full Story
