Hanke champion in hurdles

Stanwood's boys' track and field team took third behind frontrunners Lake Stevens and Marysville Pilchuck at last week's Wes- Co North Championships.
The Spartans earned 103 points to the Vikes' 180 and the Tomahawks' 133.
The district meet will be at Shoreline Stadium.
Junior Robert Hanke led the local contingent with two victories in the hurdle events. He clocked a 14.8 time in the 110 highs and a 38.7 in the 300-meter lows.
Other victors among the local contingent include the 4X400 relay squad of Nick Olsson, Mason Wrolstad, Kale Schmidt and Hanke, which ran a combined 3:26 to win by over two seconds, and Schmidt himself, who took the long jump competition with a leap of 20 feet, 11 inches.
Taking second were Olsson in the 400 with a time of 51.3 and the ever-present Schmidt with a 39.7 mark in the 300 hurdles and a clearance of 6 feet in the high jump.
Also qualifying for the Northwest District I championships (prelims on Wed., May 20, finals on Fri., May 22) were Ben Ulrich (5th, 300h, 41.1), Josh Entwisle (8th, 110h, 17.0), Alex Hatley (8th, discus, 125-08), Joe Eidsness (7th, javelin, 150-0), Trevor Fekkes (8th, 145, javelin), Richard Bascom (8th, HJ, 5-06), Olsson (5th, 200, 23.2) and Wrolstad (6th, 300h, 41.6; 7th, 110h, 16.2).
