Many islanders have served town loyally

Dear Editor:

I have a bit to add to the Al Lincoln-Stanwood/Camano controversy. I lived on the island for more than 23 years, and have belonged to several service organizations.

For more than 15 years, I was a member of the board of the Stanwood (formerly known as Camwood) Senior Center.

During my eight-year term as president, we counted more than half of the board as being islanders, contributing many hours of service and funds to support the center.

I also have been on the board of the American Legion Post 92 for the last 20 years. In that time, more than half of the commanders, including myself, and the board members were islanders.

The post has been a major contributor in the amount of thousands of dollars to many of the Stanwood youth and other organizations and people of need, including many scholarships to high school students.

This record of dedication and service of the above organizations and many others stands as proof of the close relationships between Camano islanders and "our town" of Stanwood. Case closed.
