Pearl Harbor vet honors his shipmates
Maurice Vincent, 91, of Darrington, might not seem like a man on a mission upon first glance. For many hours Friday, he stood in Stanwood's Haggen Food and Pharmacy's lobby, next to a small folding table adorned with World War II memorabilia, including a model of the USS Arizona battleship, while most shoppers walked past without a word of recognition. State budget creates longterm deficit
Legislator says —
State Rep. Norma Smith sees the legislative session in shades of gray. Although the 2009-11 budget was challenging and created some concerns, positive legislation did occur behind the scenes, Smith said. Smith voted against both the capital and operating budgets. Donations down at shelter
Monthly expenses are more than revenue in Camano Animal Shelter Association's (CASA) pocket book. However, CASA's budget situation isn't as serious as it was in March of last year, said Martha Huyler, CASA board treasurer. The influx of donations that came in then, when CASA was threatened with possible closure, helped start off 2009, she said. Full Story

Sally Voogd was born Sept. 21, 1933 in Salt Lake City, UT and passed away May 5, 2009 at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA. Sally Jean Hunt grew up in Idaho and moved to Tacoma, WA as a young girl during World War II. In 1950, she moved to Seattle and graduated from Ballard High School in 1951. During those high school days, she met Frank Voogd. Full Story
