Jeans' perfect game complements Sparts' hit parade
Tired of having to win several close ones lately, the Lady Spartan fastpitch team (13-0 in league, 16-0 overall) outscored two WesCo 4A North squads 25- 1 behind 32 hits last week. Afualo posts best score in tri-meet
The Lady Spartan golf team, participating with only four of their allotted five players, scored 137 points, nevertheless, in a tri-meet loss to Everett and Marysville-Pilchuck last week. Jackie Afualo led the local links effort with a Stableford score of 48, Alexa Dugan followed with a 38, while Maggie Chappel (27) and Devyn Bell (24) also represented the team. Full Story
Smith, Epperson earn medals
Stanwood's Jeff Epperson and Wade Smith each earned medalist honors in two of the three golf matches in which the Spartans have participated recently. Epperson shot a 75 to lead the local links contingent to second place against Lake Stevens and Monroe. Full Story

Stanwood's Joey Livesay and Jorge Garcia tallied the Spartan soccer club's (2-12-2) two goals in last Wednesday's season-ending match with Everett's Seagulls on the local pitch. Full Story
Spartan boys 2nd at Stanwood invitational
Nick Olsson, Aaron Wiganosky and Adam Knott joined triple-victor Kale Schmidt in leading their fellow Spartans to a second-place finish in the annual Stanwood Invitational last Saturday afternoon. The local thinclads scored 210 points to Lake Stevens' 255 while Mount Vernon (135 points), Mount Vernon Christian (78) and Bellingham (35) trailed. Full Story

Playing with aplomb and with an ever-increasing skill honed over the course of the season, the Lady Spartan tennis team (13-2 in league and overall) steadfastly concentrated on the task at hand and captured the WesCo 4A North dual-meet crown last week. Full Story
Lady tracksters take no prisoners in capturing own invite
Jordan Sneva's Lady Spartan track and field team amassed nine different victories during their own Stanwood Invite and won the seven-team meet going away as a result. The Sparts rolled up 232 points, easily defeating the runner up Vikings from Lake Stevens, which accumulated 185 points. Full Story
Stanwood loses in baseball finale to Snohomish
Stanwood's baseball team (6-10 in league) closed the 2009 spring season with a 14-4 loss to Snohomish, the defending state champion (and 2007 runner up). Walter Thomas was a bright spot for the Spartan offense, blasting a home run during the WesCo 4A North contest. Full Story
