Water quality is topic of CARE meeting Camano Action for A Rural Environment (CARE) will have its regular meeting 7 p.m., Thurs., May 21, at Terry's Corner Windermere office, at the corner of Sunrise and SR 532/East Camano Drive. There will be a continued discussion on water quality and what course of action to take regarding the new TR Camano gas station/convenience store application. Missionary brings news of Africa Sun., May 17, Mary Stone, missionary to Chad, will be presenting a film concerning her work in Africa during the adult Sunday school hour at Mabana Chapel, 9:45-10:45 a.m. She will also be speaking at the morning service, which begins at 11 a.m.
Annual father and daughter dance All generations are invited to the second annual father and daughter dance Sat., June 6, 6:30 - 9 p.m., hosted by the Camano Country Club, at the cluhouse, 1243 Beach Dr., Camano Island. Fathers, uncles, grandpas and all father figures are invited to enjoy an evening of music, dancing and door prizes. "Please wear your 'Spring Best' — no jeans," said an organizer. Writers' League to meet The Skagit Valley Writers League (SVW) will join the writers group at the Camano Senior & Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Dr., Wed., May 20, 10 a.m. to noon. Readings will be by authors of the SVW's 50th anniversary anthology, Word Weavers, plus contributions from Camano authors. All are welcome. Lunch will follow for a small cost. May 21, Heidi Thomas, author of "Cowgirl Dreams," will conduct a workshop on setting a character at the league meeting, 6:30 p.m., at the Mount Vernon Senior Center, 1401 Cleveland.
Free golf clinics for women this week The Camaloch Lassies are sponsoring two free golf clinics for women Thurs., May 14 and Thurs., May 21. Clinics will be facilitated by golf professional Kathy DeNeui and will address the "basics of golf" on May 14 at the chalet, and chipping and putting on the May 21 at the clubhouse. Dancing at the Grange Friday Fri., May 15, the new third Friday of the month dance will be held at South Camano Grange (2227 S. Camano Dr., just south of Elger Bay Café). Music is a mix of swing, ballroom, Latin and country music, DJ'd by Mary Bellue. Two bands join for dance at center The Stanwood High School Jazz Band will be playing the first set of Camano Junction's Sat., May 16 dance at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets available at the door. The event is open to public; all ages re welcome. Admission is charged for members and students, more for non-members.

Treasure sale at Terry's Corner There will be a treasure sale at Terry's Corner, Camano Commons Sat., May 16, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The American Cancer Society Camano Chapel Champions Relay for Life team will have many quality items donated to delight "garage sale" treasure seekers. Camano Island Coffee Roasters has loaned the space for this big sale. All remaining items will be donated to local charities, including the Stanwood Food Bank.
'Growing veggies for your table' Joy Nelson will give a presentation about growing vegetables at 7 p.m. Wed., May 20, at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 East Camano Drive (blue building by tennis courts). Nelson is a practicing wildlife habitat steward and instructor of "Vegetable Gardening 101." This presentation is part of a public education series hosted the third Wednesday of the month by the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks.
