County approves precinct changes
Island County commissioners unanimously approved the creation of 18 new election precincts Mon., April 27. A total of 10,385 voters will be affected by the change, but Island County Auditor Sheilah Crider said the revisions will have little impact on voters. Voters in new or renamed precincts will get cards in the mail that identify their new precincts. Full Story
Odd Fellows seek ways to help community and increase membership

Dance, BBQ at Camano senior center
Dance to the big band sound of Camano Junction Sat., May 16, 7 to 10 p.m. at Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Rd. Tickets are available at the door. Shots fired at Camano Island State Park, weapon confiscated man arrested
Island County Sheriff's deputies on Camano Island responded to the following recently: • Deputies responded to a report of shots being fired at Camano Island State Park May 1. A 34-year-old man, who is a convicted felon, was found in possession of a pistol. The weapon was confiscated and charges are pending. Full Story
Fishing report
Area 8.1 and 8.2: Shrimping opened with anglers pulling up their limits. We are hoping for more than a three-day opening. Please check the WDFW Web site or call the hotline before heading out to drop pots. Lingcod reports are mixed. Deception Pass has experienced a lot of pressure, and many folks have caught their limit. Full Story
Openings on Board of Equalization
The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill two positions on the Board of Equalization for District 3 (North Whidbey and Camano Island). The terms will run until May 31, 2012. An unexpired position also needs to be filled, and that position expires May 31, 2010. Full Story
County suspends voter's guide
Island County commissioners have agreed to stop publishing the voter's guide that's mailed at election time. The pamphlet contains the photos and statements from local candidates, as well as information about ballot measures. Full Story
Farm stand opens to public
Open Gate Farm on Camano Island, offering fresh, organic produce, is open. Located just south of Camano Plaza, at 269 Russell Rd., the farm stand has three varieties of heirloom rhubarb and at least five varieties of lettuce. Full Story
Gentry
Gentry is a 4-year-old neutered male. He and his sister were found abandoned in a house. They were left with no food or water. Gentry is a lovable little guy who loves to spend his days in the window sunning himself. Gentry is best buds with Piper (another cat in the shelter), they are the "no tail" team. Parents can nominate kids for highly capable program
The Stanwood-Camano School District offers its Highly Capable Program for exceptionally advanced learners in reading and math. Currently the district is serving students in grades 3-8. Elementary services are now provided at Twin City Elementary. Stanwood Middle School serves grades 6, 7 and 8. Full Story
