Candidate filing runs through Friday
Anyone planning to run for office this year must file by Friday afternoon this week.
In Snohomish and Island counties, there are 179 county and local offices up for election this year.
Expiring terms include District 5, of Snohomish County Council, currently held by John Koster, and Stanwood’s Mayor Dianne Warsinske White. Full Story
Finding the way
Rusty geese honor a creative community
Rusty metal geese will soon add a creative flair to the SR 532 corridor through Stanwood.
Featured on a set of way-finder signs, 23 geese will also identify resources available off the highway in the three distinct parts of the city: uptown, the east end of downtown and the historic west end.
Some have expressed wonder at why rusty metal geese should represent Stanwood. Full Story

ANNABELLE (ANNE) ROHWEDER
March 12, 1926- May 3, 2013
Anne was born March 12, 1926 in Satsop, Wash., and passed into the eternal energy stream on May 3, 2013.
During her childhood she lived in Marblemount, Wash., moved to Enumclaw, Wash. as an adolescent and graduated from Virginia Mason School of Nursing in 1946.
She taught at the University of Washington School of Nursing where she also earned a master's degree. Full Story

Betty L. Hanseth, 70, of Stanwood, passed away on Nov. 14, 2012 with her family by her side.
Betty was born Nov 29, 1941 in Spokane, to Norman and Thelma Ratekin.
She attended Arlington High School graduating in 1960 and Mount Vernon Beauty School graduating in 1962. Full Story

John Thomas McAdams passed away at his home in Stanwood, Wash., May 7, 2013.
He was surrounded by family and dear friends who loved him deeply.
John was born in Everett, Wash., Nov. 10, 1948 to John and Marilyn McAdams.
